Our objective is to bring together the followers and admirers of the rich and unique culture of the Central Asian Region. Throughout the year we will be running theme events which will cover carpet weaving traditions, history and culture of people in the Central Asian region. The events will last for two hours and will have a simple format of a short presentation with demonstration of authentic photos and video clips with live commentary followed by a networking event over a glass of wine and canapes. Our next members event will take place on Saturday, 21st of August frm 5 till 7pm in our shop. This time we will focus on Kazakhstan, its history, culture, traditions and carpet weaving.
Nomadic Gallery has also set up a charity project, Children of Hope which supports Qashawreha School, located 85km from Herat (N.W. Afghanistan). It is a primary mixed school (for boys and girls) with 500 pupils, where they cover basic maths, reading, writing and history. Interestingly, this year the number of pupils has gone up from 453 to 500 which is a good sign of more children starting at school. Last year our target was to raise £453 (one pound per pupil) which would allow us to buy a set of pens, pencils, two notebooks and a ruler for each pupil. The target was well achieved thanks to all our members and we have even raised additional £47 to make it £500. We understand it is a drop in the ocean, but we believe it is a starting point where we can do something small but useful for children in Afghanistan.
